IPL 2021 carnival is all set to start from 9th April, where Virat’s Royal Challengers Bangalore will take on Rohit’s Mumbai Indians. The Captain and the Vice-Captain of India’s white-ball cricket are two main batters and the contest between their IPL sides will be nothing short of high-voltage cricketing drama.
Only 6 venues have been finalized for the 60-match IPL 2021 season due to the Covid-19 pandemic situation. While there were speculations about people being allowed to the grounds in limited capacity, the chances of the same seem diminishing with the rising levels of Corona cases. The six cities that will host this thrilling T20 league are Chennai, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Bengaluru, and Kolkata. No teams will have a specific home ground, although the concept of home and away grounds have been retained.
All IPL 2021 teams have tried to fill in the gaps by adding new players to their squad. Every team looks great on paper, and only a fool can be 100% sure as to which team will win the coveted IPL 2021 trophy. The mini IPL 2021 auction saw the teams going on all out attack for players they think will change their fortunes.
Following is the IPL 2021 squad list of all teams:
IPL 2021 Squad CSK (Chennai Super Kings)
Chennai Super Kings always start as the favourites, no matter how the previous season panned out. After Shane Watson announced his retirement last season, CSK has tried to strengthen the opening slot by adding the veteran Robin Uthappa to their armoury.
Thala MS Dhoni will lead the Chennai Super Kings side that has been rejuvenated by the inclusion of their very own Suresh Raina. While the core team still remains the same, the addition of two power-hitting all-rounders, K Gowtham and Moeen Ali, adds a new dimension to this strong side.
The successful combination of Captain Dhoni and coach Fleming will look to guide their side to the fourth IPL title. If the last leg of IPL 2020 was indicative of the signs to come, then CSK has more than just a chance to win the IPL 2021 trophy.
IPL 2021 Squad MI (Mumbai Indians)
The defending champions Mumbai Indians are on the verge of creating history, as they might become the first team in the IPL to win the trophy 3 consecutive times. Last year, MI broke the jinx of not winning the IPL trophy in the even-numbered year.
The core team is pretty much the same and will back their attacking style of play. However, the MI family has added few members to plug in the gaps. The newly added members include veteran leg-spinner Piyush Chawla, all-rounder Arjun Tendulkar, and the Kiwi pacer Adam Milne.
The fearless approach of MI sets them apart from other teams. MI looks to have all bases covered and are strong favourites to lift the coveted IPL trophy this time around as well.
IPL 2021 Squad RCB (Royal Challengers Bangalore)
Last year, RCB made a great start to the season and even managed to make it to the playoffs. However, the IPL trophy eluded them, just like it has from the inception of the IPL. As Virat said, he will be opening the innings, probably with Devdutt Padikkal.
RCB’s middle-order looks even stronger, as the ‘Big Show’ Glenn Maxwell will join hands with Mr.360 AB de Villiers. Speaking of lower-order, RCB has made some smart picks by including Daniel Sams, Kyle Jamieson, and Daniel Christian.
Only time would tell how RCB’s 2021 season goes, but it will be exciting to see if Virat, AB, and Maxwell get going.
IPL 2021 Squad KKR (Kolkata Knight Riders)
Smart and successful, England’s white-ball captain Eoin Morgan will lead the KKR side in the IPL 2021 season. Under Morgan, KKR is expected to play the same brand of cricket that England plays in white-ball cricket.
KKR has retained their core side, while also filling in the gaps by including Shakib Al Hasan, Harbhajan Singh, Ben Cutting, and Karun Nair. The all-rounders like Russel and Shakib can dismantle any team on a given day.
KKR’s batting has the power of Morgan and Russel, class of Shubman Gill, and finishing abilities of Dinesh Karthik. Their bowling has always relied more on spinners, but they also have a fierce pace attack that includes the likes of Pat Cummins, Lockie Ferguson, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Shivam Mavi, and Prasidh Krishna.
If KKR go in with a clear plan, it will be hard to defeat this mighty team. All KKR fans will be dancing to the tune of Korbo Lorbo Jeetbo Re.
IPL 2021 Squad RR (Rajasthan Royals)
After winning the inaugural season of IPL, Rajasthan Royals has failed to win the IPL trophy. The RR team looks strong as ever, as they have match-winners in the form of Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer, Sanju Samson, and more.
The major change in the side is that this year they won’t have the services of Steve Smith who has been picked by the Delhi Capitals. Also, RR will have a new captain this season – Sanju Samson.
The inclusion of English opener Liam Livingstone can solve their problems at the top, while the death bowling is strengthened due to the addition of Bangladeshi left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman.
IPL 2021 Squad DC (Delhi Capitals)
The Shreyas Iyer-led side made it to the finals in the IPL 2020 season. Unfortunately, they lost the final against the dominant Mumbai Indians team. DC will look to go one step ahead in the IPL 2021 season and get their hands on the prestigious IPL trophy. This time around, Shreyas Iyer might miss out on a few games due to the shoulder injury.
The Delhi team has added a world-class batsman in their ranks by including Steve Smith. They have strengthened the pace attack by including Umesh Yadav and Chris Woakes.
If batting is concerned, they have batters that can take the game away from the opposition in a matter of a few minutes. DC has X-factor players like the explosive Rishabh Pant, speedy Anrich Nortje, and skilful Kagiso Rabada.
DC is at its absolute best when they play an expressive brand of cricket. Whether or not they will be able to play with the same style of cricket remains to be seen.
IPL 2021 Squad PK (Punjab Kings)
IPL 2020 was a season of two halves for then Kings XI Punjab. Now, this franchise has been named as Punjab Kings. In the first half of the last season, Punjab won only one match, and managed to win 5 in the second half. Unfortunately, Punjab was not able to make it through to the playoffs.
This time they have added world no. 1 T20I batsman Dawid Malan to the squad and released Glenn Maxwell who failed to deliver any substantial performance in the last season. Punjab’s batting will be heavily reliant on their openers, KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal. At 3, they have the Universe Boss Chris Gayle who can put any bowler to the sword. Another West Indian southpaw Nicholas Pooran is completely capable of tearing into bowling attacks.
Punjab has added more firepower to their bowling attack by picking up Jhye Richardson and Riley Meredith. No doubt Punjab has one of the strongest teams on paper; will they make the most of it in the IPL 2021 season?
IPL 2021 Squad SRH (Sunrisers Hyderabad)
Sunrisers Hyderabad is inspired by their charismatic captain David Warner who leads the way with his attacking batting. There are many smart players like Kane Williamson, Jason Holder, Mohammad Nabi, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Rashid Khan in the squad.
To power the middle-order, SRH has added Kedar Jadhav to the squad. The top-order will include the power-packed opening pair of Jonny Bairstow and David Warner. In the middle they have services of cool Williamson, dashing Manish Pandey, explosive Mitchell Marsh, and finisher Kedar Jadhav. The all-rounders Mohammad Nabi, Abhishek Sharma, and Jason Holder can make a huge impact if utilized properly.
The spin wizard Rashid Khan and newly-added Mujeeb Ur Rehman will be hard to score of. The skilful Bhuvneshwar and Sandeep Sharma make batsmen look foolish with their immense control with the new ball. T Natarajan makes it difficult for the batsmen to get him away during the death overs, thanks to his pinpoint accurate yorkers.
Chances of SRH winning the IPL 2021 trophy will heavily rely on their opening pair and bowling attack.
Who will win the IPL 2021 trophy?
On paper, all teams look strong. However, everyone knows that the two strongest teams will surely be defending champions Mumbai Indians and 3-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings. As the IPL is about to begin, tighten your seatbelts and get ready for a rollercoaster ride of thrilling T20 action.
