IPL 2020 – A season to forget for the Chennai Super Kings
It was not the season that the 3-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings would have hoped for. Their team looked completely out of place, and that showed in their performances. At the start of the season, CSK faced a major setback when their prolific number 3 Raina pulled out of the competition due to personal reasons. The veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh also opted out of the IPL 2020 season.
Chennai’s batting seemed to struggle more, and no batsman was consistent enough. The batting order kept on changing, but nothing seemed to work for the Chennai team. Bowling was good but lacked consistency.
Although it was not a great season for CSK, they managed to end the season on a high by winning their last 3 matches. It is the first time that the CSK side could not make it to the playoffs. The positives from this season were that they found two young gems Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sam Curran. While Ruturaj is a talented young opener, Sam Curran is a handy all-rounder.
CSK would surely be hurt by their performance, but as they say, you cannot keep a lion down for long. All CSK fans will hope to see the champion side back to their normal best in the upcoming IPL season.
Top Batsmen Chennai Super Kings 2020
- Faf du Plessis:
If there was any CSK batsman who seemed to belong on this big stage, then it was surely the South African Faf du Plessis. He stood out from the rest of CSK batsmen and played some great innings in the IPL 2020 season. Faf scored 449 runs at an impressive strike rate of 140. CSK relied heavily on Faf to provide quick and stable starts.
- Ambati Rayudu:
Another reliable player for CSK was their seasoned campaigner Ambati Rayudu. He was technically as good as ever but lacked the consistency that CSK expects from him. Rayudu scored 359 runs in the Indian Premier League 2020 season and will look to contribute more in the upcoming IPL season.
- Shane Watson:
This turned out to be the last IPL season for Shane Watson, as he has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. Not the kind of last season Shane Watson would have hoped for. It was not a great start to the season for Watson, as he strung together a series of low scores. He came good in a few matches and managed to end the season with 299 runs.
Top Bowlers Chennai Super Kings 2020:
- Sam Curran:
This young English all-rounder impressed one and all with his talent. He swung the new ball and picked up crucial wickets in the powerplay. Sam Curran was also given the responsibility to bowl at the depth. He did both the jobs well and managed to pick 13 wickets throughout the IPL 2020 season.
- Deepak Chahar:
The ability to swing the ball both ways made Deepak Chahar an asset for the CSK team. Dhoni mostly utilized his services in the powerplay, where he was hard to pick. Chahar let the ball do the talking and picked up 12 wickets. He will look to perform better in the next season and hopefully win the IPL trophy.
- Shardul Thakur:
Shardul Thakur didn’t get as many opportunities as he deserved. But in the limited chances that he got, he proved his worth. Be it bowling in powerplay or at the depth, he did an exceptional job. Shardul ended the IPL 2020 season with 10 wickets.
