A Season to Reflect Back Upon and Come Back Stronger
It was a season full of highs and lows for the Kolkata Knight Riders team. Till the very end, KKR had the hopes of making it to the playoffs, but their net run rate and results of other games didn’t go in their favour. The team never looked settled throughout the IPL. Either they were dominant or looked lost during their encounters.
The change of captaincy mid-way into the IPL didn’t prove to be much useful. Eoin Morgan took over the charge from Dinesh Karthik, but he too could not change the fortunes of his team. Barring Shubman Gill, no other batsman was consistent at the top. Eoin Morgan showed glimpses of form, but apart from him, no other middle-order batsman could perform consistently. Nitish Rana played some vital knocks. The biggest disappointment for KKR was the lack of form of the West-Indian all-rounder Andre Russel. Had he been at his best, Russel could have really proved to be the game-changer.
KKR’s bowling looked good in bits and pieces. Pat Cummins led the bowling attack; he was at his best in a few games, while looked average in the remaining. Their talented mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy bowled really well throughout the IPL 2020 season. Young Indian seamers Nagarkoti and Mavi were also brilliant.
Overall, KKR didn’t click as a team in the Indian Premier League 2020 season. They will look to balance the team and grab the IPL trophy in the upcoming season.
Top Batsmen Kolkata Knight Riders 2020
- Shubman Gill:
Shubman Gill was consistent throughout the IPL 2020 season. But he could not pace his innings right, which is quite evident from his strike rate of 117.9. He gave brilliant starts to his side and ended the season with 440 runs. If he adds some momentum to his game, Gill will surely be an asset for his team.
- Eoin Morgan:
Morgan is one of the best white-ball cricketers going around. He showed glimpses of the same during the IPL 2020 season and scored 418 runs. The batting order looked unsettled, meaning that Morgan didn’t always get the number 4 spot to bat. If the team would have stuck with Morgan at 4, they would have made it to the playoffs. Eoin Morgan will look to take his game a notch higher in the upcoming season and hopefully lead his side to an IPL triumph.
- Nitish Rana:
The array of strokes Nitish Rana had was quite brilliant to see. He was given an opportunity to open the innings in a few games, and he showed why he is considered one of the finest batsmen in the country. Rana played some crucial knocks and ended the season with a tally of 352 runs.
Top Bowlers Kolkata Knight Riders 2020
- Varun Chakravarthy:
This mystery spinner bowled exceptionally well in the powerplay as well as in the middle overs. He was hard to pick, leaving the batsmen with no clue as to which side the ball would spin. Varun’s magical bowling was rewarded with 17 wickets. If he would have received more support from other bowlers, KKR would have had the chance of making it to the playoffs.
- Pat Cummins:
This Australian quick was brilliant in bits and pieces, picking up 12 wickets in the Indian Premier League 2020 season. He bowled well in a few games but lacked the consistency that was expected of him. KKR’s fans will hope that he comes back next season with his top game.
- Shivam Mavi:
The young Indian pacer contributed a lot whenever he was given the opportunity. He certainly has the pace and picked up 9 wickets in the IPL 2020 season. If Mavi was given a consistent run, he could have easily picked up more wickets.
